#7 Eat With Hand
Mar 14th, 2008 by third_eye
Indians love to eat with hand. No spoon, no fork, not utensil at all - just god given five naked fingers and bare palm, and wrist and arm when needed. Tool making forced human to evolve, and Indians successfully resisted the urge when it came to utensils for the dinner table. Indians had time to find out thousands of spices to cook endless curries and build one of the most complicated and elaborate cuisines, but had no time left to come up with something to eat with. Indian culture has cut all connection to cutlery. Even Chinese has chop sticks, but Indians have not figured out beyond their fingers. In India hand to mouth has a completely different meaning.
Indians eat everything with their bare hands: to really enjoy a meal Indians have to use their hands. Indians have to bury their fingers in curry and play with pudding. In India it is not a feast without a messy wrist. Indians believe that eating with hands is a refined art. Indians mix their dishes and mush their food: especially with rice they turn everything into a ball - the tighter the better, and launch the ball towards their open mouth. Eating without utensil is surely a great feat of acrobatic skill.
Any Indian would tell you Indian food taste really good if eaten with bare fingers: just because while eating Indians have to lick their fingers to clean, does not make the food finger licking good. Indians would tell you it is more sensual: I bet it does not include the eyes. Somehow the sight of slimy curry sliding down sticky fingers fails to suggest sensuality. Sure, the beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, but still there are no tastebuds on fingers, yet.
Before you start a food fight, remember what else Indians do with their hands. They paint their hands with semi-permanent markers called henna for beauty. They touch dust covered feet to express respect. They would rub their hands in all public religious places where billion others have just finished rubbing their hands. And do not forget, India is a country that does not believe in toilet paper.

interesting information must say do visit my blog http://write2ankit.blogspot.com
To understand Indian way of eating, you should undersand Indian culture and eating habits. When we see west way of eating, we find your food to be tastless and use of fork, knife and spoon came because you were tribals hunting animals. The grill party itself is evident when you bake the whole pig along with its head and keep it as a family meal.
My dear, not only are you judgemental, you’re also ill-informed. South Asians have a very refined sense of personal cleanliness. And eating with one’s fingers isn’t about evolution.
And about your asswipe barb: It’s far less hygienic to use toilet paper than to wash one’s privates, which is what Indians and many south Asians do. So when you say Indians don’t believe in toilet paper, do NOT omit to mention that they WASH.
And next time, don’t travel if your sensibilities cannot handle cultural differences.
